Start your website, or start over
This page is for website editors (admins with Website editor switched on).
Start your website from a template
Section titled “Start your website from a template”A new website starts empty. Until you pick a template, Website shows Choose a template to start in place of the editor.
- Open Website. You see Choose a template to start.
- Click a template’s card. The preview shows its sample site. On a phone, swipe the cards sideways to see them all.
- When you like one, press Start with and the template’s name (for example Start with Meridian). It says Setting up… for a moment, then opens your Pages.
- Your site now has all its pages, a menu, a footer and three sample blog posts. The words are samples, such as “Your Company”, [City] and [phone]. The template’s pictures and hero video are in Pictures, where you can replace or delete them like any picture.
- Change the words and pictures to your own. Nothing goes live until you press Publish.
Want AI to write the words for you? Use the Let AI write your words card on the same screen (see Let AI write your first draft).
You can change the theme later on the Theme tab (see Choose a website theme). That changes only the look, not your words or pictures.
Enquiries and Pictures still open before you pick a template.
Delete website content and start over
Section titled “Delete website content and start over”This deletes everything on your website so you can pick a template again. It can’t be undone.
Who can do it: website editors, and the platform admin when switched into your company.
- Open Website → Site settings.
- At the bottom, under Danger zone, press Delete website content and start over.
- A window says what is deleted and what is kept. Read it.
- Type
DELETE(in capitals) in the box. The red Delete website content and start over button can only be pressed once you’ve typed it. - Press it. When it’s done, Website shows Choose a template to start again.
| Deleted | Kept |
|---|---|
| All pages and blog posts | Enquiries |
| Site settings: company details, menu, footer, logo, design and SEO | Who gets enquiry emails, the auto-reply and the allowed site addresses |
| All pictures and videos | Your website address and domains |
| Saved versions (History becomes empty) | The website’s activity log, with a new line saying who deleted the content |
| Changes you hadn’t saved yet in this browser | Your own templates and My sections: they keep their layouts but lose their pictures |
Quote-request settings that were copied from the platform’s sample company are not kept: its email addresses and website addresses are removed, and an auto-reply written for it is switched off. Check Send quote requests to in Site settings and add your own email.
Your live site stays up. It keeps showing the last copy you published, and its quote form keeps working. It changes only when you start again and press Publish.
Version numbers carry on from the last one. After starting over, your next publish is not “Version 1” again.
If your company has a private design made for it, you can start over too. Afterwards you pick a template like everyone else, and can switch back to the private design on the Theme tab.
