The Android app
The Android app opens the same app as app.theopsroom.io, so every update to theopsroom reaches the app at once. It adds a few things a phone does better: the phone’s own barcode scanner, printing through Android’s share sheet, and a light buzz on each scan. The tabs, the More screen and everything else work as described in Use theopsroom on a phone.
Sign in on the app
Section titled “Sign in on the app”Signing in with your email and password works exactly as on the website; see Sign in.
With Google, Google doesn’t allow sign-in inside an app, so the app hands over to the phone’s browser:
- Tap Continue with Google. Google opens in a browser panel over the app.
- Choose your Google account.
- The panel closes by itself and the app signs you in.
The hand-back uses a one-time code that works once, within 2 minutes, and only in the app that asked for it.
Google sign-in in the app is for signing in only. To accept an invite with Google, open the invite link in the phone’s browser instead (see Accept an invite).
What the app does differently
Section titled “What the app does differently”- Scanning. The Scan tab and the camera button (Use camera on the scan box) open the phone’s own scanner (Google’s). It reads Code 128, Code 39, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, QR and Data Matrix codes. If the phone doesn’t have Google’s scanner yet, it downloads in the background and the camera scanner from the website is used meanwhile. A good scan gives a light tap; a refused scan buzzes.
- PDFs (labels, handover sheets) go to Android’s share sheet, so you can print them or open them in a PDF app. Closing the share sheet without choosing anything is fine. Invoices still open in theopsroom’s own PDF viewer.
- Links to other websites (a courier’s tracking page) open in a browser panel over the app. Links inside theopsroom stay in the app.
- The phone’s status bar takes the page’s colour.
